The Most Profitable Guests In Hospitality

Dog owners stay longer, pay more and return twice as often. They book on proof, and certification is the proof.

Fuller Rooms

Dog friendly properties see 15 to 28% higher occupancy than comparable hotels, from guests who travel all year round, off-season included.

Premium Rates

64% of dog owners will pay up to $50 more per night for a stay they can verify is genuinely dog friendly. Proof unlocks the premium. A vague label never does.

Richer, Longer Stays

Dog-owning guests stay around 22% longer and spend about 30% more on food, drink and spa, then rebook at nearly double the industry rate.

Welcome Dogs Properly? Prove It!

Every hotel calls itself pet friendly, so the label has stopped meaning anything. 49% of hotels that claim it score a D or an F when measured against the Standard. Certification separates the hotels that genuinely get it right from the ones who give you a list of rules, charge you a fee, and call it “pet friendly”.

Dog Friendly Certification Q&A

About the certification
What exactly is dog friendly certification?

It is an independent assessment of how genuinely your hotel hosts dogs and their owners, measured against the Roch Dog Friendly Standard. You complete a structured assessment about your property, we check your answers, and your hotel is then scored, ranked, certified and listed. It is a third-party mark earned against a published standard, never a sticker you award yourself, and that is exactly what gives it weight with the dog owners who see it.

How is this different from calling my hotel "pet friendly"?

Every hotel calls itself pet friendly, but it means something different at every one, so dog owners have stopped trusting it. A third-party certification is more trustworthy than a welcome you declare yourself, and it cuts through the noise so owners can tell you apart from every hotel making the same empty claim.

Who runs the standard?

Roch Dog. We maintain the Roch Dog Friendly Standard, certify hotels against it, and publish the directory that dog owners search when they are looking for somewhere to stay. The standard is open for anyone to read in full, so you can see exactly what your hotel is being measured against before you ever begin. The guests who rely on it can see it too, which is what keeps the whole thing honest.

Is my hotel the right size to qualify?

Size is never the barrier. We certify everything from small boutique guesthouses to grand resorts, and the scoring accounts for the kind of property you run, so you are judged fairly against your own category rather than against hotels nothing like yours. What we measure is how well you host dogs and their owners, not how many rooms you happen to let. A ten-room inn can outrank a five-star giant.

The process
How does the assessment work?

You answer a structured set of plain questions about your property, your policies, your facilities and the experience you offer dogs and their owners. There is no jargon and no consultants required, and most hotels finish it comfortably in a single sitting. From there the work moves to us: we check what you have told us, then score, certify and rank your hotel against the standard.

How long does it take?

Most hotels complete the assessment comfortably inside an hour, and you can do it in one sitting or come back to it as you go. Once you submit, the checking and scoring happen on our side rather than yours, so there is nothing more for you to chase or manage. We then come back to you with your result, your score and your final rank.

Do you actually check what I tell you?

Yes, thoroughly and on an ongoing basis. We mystery shop your hotel periodically, and we proactively contact your front of house, reception, reservations, concierge and housekeeping teams to confirm that what you told us holds true in practice. Your guests help too, quietly tipping us off when the reality of a stay does not match the promise. If anything fails to stand up, your listing is amended or removed, and that is exactly what makes the mark worth carrying.

Scoring and ranking
How is my hotel scored?

Across more than 70 data points spanning the whole of a dog's stay, from booking and arrival to the room itself, the facilities, the staff and the surrounding area. Those points produce a score, and the score produces your rank against every other hotel assessed against the standard. It is a real, measured result you can stand behind, not a vague badge handed out to anyone who asks.

How do I improve my rank?

Improve something at your hotel, then tell us. You can update your answers at any time, not only at certification or renewal, so the moment you add a new amenity, train your team further or raise your standards, you log the change and we check it. Once it holds up, your rank moves accordingly. We would always rather hear the moment things change than wait a year to find out.

Can I update my answers after I am certified?

Yes, and we want you to. Your certification is not frozen at the moment you submit it, so whenever something at your hotel changes, for better or for worse, you can update your answers and we will reflect it. If you have improved, your rank can rise straight away; if something has slipped, we would far rather know than have a guest discover it first. The picture owners see stays true to your hotel.

What if I score badly the first time?

You still walk away knowing precisely where you stand and exactly what to change to improve. A low first score is a starting point rather than a closed door, and because the assessment shows you where the gaps are, it is often the fastest route to a much better result. Plenty of well-ranked hotels did not begin anywhere near the top.

After you're certified
What do I actually get?

A score and a rank, certification against the standard, and a listing in our directory alongside thousands of certified hotels that dog owners search every day. You also get the Roch Dog Seal to display on your website and front desk, and Kali recommending you directly to dog owners. Proof, visibility and word of mouth, all in one annual certification.

You mentioned Kali. What does she do for my hotel?

Kali is our AI concierge to dog owners, and once you are certified she learns your hotel and starts recommending it. Over on Kali Talk she tells thousands of dog owners about you and answers their questions about your hotel day and night, long after your front desk has gone home. It is word of mouth that never sleeps, pointed straight at the people most likely to book a stay with you.

There is also a white-label version that is yours alone. Kali Concierge puts the same intelligence behind your own brand, a dog concierge on your own website answering your guests' questions in your name, before, during and after their stay, working for your hotel directly rather than the whole community.

Where does my hotel get found?

In the two places dog owners actually look: our directory and certified index, where they search for hotels they can trust, and Kali Talk, where Kali recommends you directly to our community of dog owners. Your rank shapes how prominently you surface across all of them, so the better you do, the more often the right guests find you first.

Can I display the certification on my own site?

Yes. Certified hotels receive the Roch Dog Seal to display on their website, their booking pages and at the front desk itself. The credibility travels with you wherever owners first come across you, turning a recognised mark into a reason to book direct rather than scroll past. It works hardest exactly where guests are deciding whether to trust you with their dog.

Beyond certification
Is this just a badge, or do you actually help my hotel improve?

Certification is the start, not the end. We hand you the ROI playbooks that show where you are leaving money on the table and how to fix it, from the wording of your dog policy to the way your team handles a dog at check-in. The assessment shows you where you fall short, and the playbooks show you how to climb. The goal is a better hotel that earns more, not a sticker on the door.

Do you help train my team?

Yes. Hosting dogs well is a skill, and we help your front desk, housekeeping and management build it, so the welcome on your website is the welcome a guest actually gets. Better-trained teams mean fewer mishaps, fewer bad reviews, and far more confident selling of what you offer dogs and their owners. It is how you turn a policy on paper into a reputation worth booking.

Is hosting dogs actually worth the money?

The numbers are clear. Dog owners spend more, stay longer, travel off-season and come back more often, and they bring their friends with them. They book on certainty, so a genuine, proven welcome turns browsers who would gamble elsewhere into direct bookings with you. We lay the whole case out, with the figures, in our economics of dog friendly hospitality paper.

Cost and commitment
What does certification cost?

We bill in your local currency, and you will see the pricing the moment you begin your assessment. It is a low annual service fee to certify, rank, review and verify your hotel, billed once a year with no setup fee.

How long does certification last?

It runs for a full year, and keeping it current keeps your listing live, your rank visible and your seal valid to display. Improving your rank does not wait for renewal, you can update your answers and climb the moment you better your offer. Staying certified is simply how you hold your place as standards across the industry keep rising around you.
